Wikipedia is a free knowledge base with a vast amount of information. As one of the top 10 websites in the world, Wikipedia’s traffic reflects the public's need for knowledge and the importance of knowledge communication. However, only 9% of Wikipedia editors are female. Additionally, the average editing frequency of male editors is two times higher than that of female editors. Meanwhile, the biographies of women and the knowledge areas that women focus on are often incomplete and underappreciated.

Wikiwomen Taiwan, in response to the global Wikipedia community, will hold the “2026 Art + Feminism Edit-a-thon” on July 5th. Through inviting talents from everywhere to co-edit influential women's stories and feminist contributors worldwide, we hope to bring more diverse gender stories to Wikipedia.

Theme of the Year

National defense is the cornerstone of safeguarding our land and maintaining peace—a mission that thrives on the collective participation of all members of society. While the military has long been perceived as a male-dominated sphere, women have never been absent from the front lines of defense. Embracing diverse perspectives and advancing gender equality are, in fact, the key forces behind the resilience of modern national defense.

The 2026 A+F  Edit-a-thon aims to shine a spotlight on the "trailblazing women" in  the military. We will feature remarkable figures ranging from Taiwan’s first female Lieutenant General, Chen Yu-lin, and information warfare pioneer Lei Yung-chi, to West Point alumna Hu Chia-chi. We also look globally to legendary leaders like U.S. Air Force Four-Star General Ellen Pawlikowski, who shattered the glass ceiling. These outstanding women hold pivotal influence in strategic command, military technology, and logistics; their stories deserve to be seen and recognized by the world.

We warmly welcome all volunteers who are passionate about gender equality and defense affairs! Join us in filling the information gaps on Wikipedia through editing and translation. Let’s document the achievements of these remarkable military leaders and reshape the gender narrative of national defense together!
